Anharmonic effects control interaction of carbyne confined in carbon nanotubes shaping their vibrational properties

Carbynes are bulk linear chains of carbon atoms that can be stabilized inside carbon nanotubes. Here the authors show that while electronic states of tube and chain are decoupled, their vibrational structure is strongly altered by anharmonic interactions.

van der Waals driven anharmonic melting of the 3D charge density wave in VSe₂

The nature of the charge density wave transition in VSe₂ is still debated. Here, the authors demonstrate that the transition is mainly driven by electron-phonon interactions, despite the presence of the Fermi-surface nesting, and that Wan-der-Waals forces are responsible for melting of the charge density wave order.
