Discovery of a selective and biologically active low-molecular weight antagonist of human interleukin-1β

Interleukin-1β is a pro-inflammatory cytokine of medical importance. Here the authors describe the discovery of a low-molecular weight compound that antagonizes hIL-1β function in cells, demonstrating the relevance of this discovery for future development of hIL-1β directed therapeutics.

The solution structure of the first KH domain of FMR1, the protein responsible for the fragile X syndrome

The structure and dynamics of the first KH domain of FMR1 — the protein responsible for fragile X syndrome — reveal that an exposed loop is highly flexible despite containing a GxxG motif that is well conserved throughout the KH family. We suggest that this region provides a putative binding surface for RNA recognition.
