Anubis Vega-Rúa, Michele Marconcini et al. study how the dynamics of genetics and admixture events of Aedes albopictus affect its competence for the CHIKV. Using microsatellites, they found that the demographic history influences the competence for the virus and is an important feature to assess the risk of outbreaks in new areas.
