Low-frequency and rare exome chip variants associate with fasting glucose and type 2 diabetes susceptibility

Both rare and common variants contribute to the aetiology of complex traits such as type 2 diabetes (T2D). Here, the authors examine the effect of coding variation on glycaemic traits and T2D, and identify low-frequency variation in GLP1Rsignificantly associated with these traits.

Four-dimensional electron microscopy has been applied to the detailed characterization of metal–organic-framework nanoparticles undergoing an electronic transition. The transition characteristics of a single particle were found to differ from those of an ensemble, and also to vary from one nanoparticle to the next.

Nanoscale covalent organic frameworks for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production

Nanosizing covalent organic frameworks using surfactants provides greatly improved water dispersibility and light-harvesting properties, leading to dramatically enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production performance. Here the authors observe a reverse concentration-dependent photocatalytic phenomeno, whereby a higher photocatalytic activity is found at a lower catalyst concentration.

Design and synthesis of highly active MoVTeNb-oxides for ethane oxidative dehydrogenation

Crystalline M1 phase of Mo-V-Te-Nb mixed oxide is an excellent catalyst for ethane oxidative dehydrogenation to ethene. Here, the authors show a method that synthesizes highly active materials by generating M1 crystals with corrugated terminations, thus exposing a large concentration of active sites.
