Optical readout of a superconducting qubit using a piezo-optomechanical transducer

Superconducting qubits are measured using microwaves, posing constraints on its size and thermal budgets. The electro-optic transceiver presented here can be used to perform optical readout without affecting qubit performance.

Frequency chasing of individual megadalton ions in an Orbitrap analyser improves precision of analysis in single-molecule mass spectrometry

The mass precision and resolution in charge-detection mass spectrometry can be improved by correcting frequency drifts of single ions. Now, chasing these individual ions for seconds in an Orbitrap mass spectrometer has revealed the exceptional stability of ultra-high-mass ions, culminating in an effective resolution of greater than 100,000 at m/z = 35,000.

Deep brain stimulation restores frontostriatal network activity in obsessive-compulsive disorder

Patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have attenuated reward anticipatory activity in the nucleus accumbens (NAc), and deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the NAc is used to treat OCD. The authors show that NAc DBS normalizes NAc activity, reduces connectivity between NAc and prefrontal cortex, and decreases frontal low-frequency oscillations in OCD patients.

Femto-chemistry allows researchers to probe the individual transitions in a molecule during a chemical reaction. Therapeutic IgG4 antibodies engage in Fab-arm exchange with endogenous human IgG4 in vivo

Although never demonstrated in humans, exchange of the antigen-binding regions of IgG4 antibodies with different specificities could complicate certain antibody therapies. Labrijn et al. show that Fab-arm exchange occurs in patients and propose that a single mutation can inhibit the process.
