High-resolution scanning electron microscopy of an ultracold quantum gas

Electron microscopes are regularly used to resolve atoms in solid samples. It turns out that they can also be used to image atoms in a Bose–Einstein condensate—remarkably, without destroying the coherent properties of the condensate.

Atlas of plasma NMR biomarkers for health and disease in 118,461 individuals from the UK Biobank

The authors report a systematic analyses of blood biomarkers for metabolism against the whole spectrum of diseases in 100,000 individuals and reveals a prominent role of numerous metabolic biomarkers as risk markers beyond heart disease and diabetes.

Genome-wide study for circulating metabolites identifies 62 loci and reveals novel systemic effects of LPA

Circulating metabolites reflect human health and disease. Here, Kettunen et al. perform a genome-wide association study on 123 circulating metabolic traits and identify novel genetic loci influencing systemic metabolism. They also link new molecular pathways with a known cardiovascular risk factor Lp(a).
