Enhancing electrical conductivity by defects in metals

Giant local stress was formed by introducing heterogeneous interfaces, thus suppressing electron-phonon coupling and reducing electron scattering. Consequently, a bulk electrical conductivity of > 110 % IACS is obtained in copper at room temperature.

PIM1 promotes hepatic conversion by suppressing reprogramming-induced ferroptosis and cell cycle arrest

Protein kinase-mediated phosphorylation plays a critical role in many biological processes. Here the authors develop a trans-omics-based algorithm called Central Kinase Inference to integrate quantitative transcriptomic and phosphoproteomic data, finding that PIM1 promotes hepatic conversion by suppressing reprogramming-induced ferroptosis and cell cycle arrest.

Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 accelerates vascular calcification by upregulating Runx2

Vascular calcification is a hallmark of end stage renal disease. Here, Cheng et al. show that poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) activity is increased in calcified arteries in patients and uremic rats, and that PARP1 promotes vascular calcification by suppressing miR-204 expression via IL-6/STAT3 signaling, thus relieving repression of the osteogenic regulator Runx2.
