Despite the advantages of biohybrid systems for soft robotics, most systems have short lifetime, require complex fabrication, and only remain functional with careful maintenance. Here, the authors report biohybrid mechanoluminescence in soft elastomer-encapsulated bioluminescent dinoflagellates.
