Hepatic ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI) can occur following liver surgery or transplantation. Here the authors report a multi-functional nanomedicine developed to bind cell-free DNA, scavenge reactive oxygen species, chelate intracellular Ca2+ and serve as a NO donor, and show efficacy in alleviating IRI in preclinical models.
