Using simple artificial molecules to mimic complicated phenomena in living systems requires the selection of suitable species from a library using multivariate optimization processes. Here, the authors develop a dynamic combinatorial library of configurational isomers for molecular self-assembly through the rational design of a low-symmetric gear-shaped amphiphile and show selective isomer generation with external stimulus.
