Testa et al. investigates the effect of strain diversity and spatial structure on success of lytic phage infecting Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms. They report that living in a spatially structured population can protect bacteria against phage infection, which is mainly due to slower growth at colony centre rather than any additional protection provided by presence of insensitive strain.
