Congenital heart disease (CHD) is often treated with cardiac surgery in infancy, which involves the removal of the thymus, due to its position in the chest. Here authors show that the γδ T cell compartment of children with CHD who underwent surgery in early infancy is disturbed, which might contribute to higher disease susceptibility following early thymectomy.
