Verma et al. describe a new mechanism for diethylcarbamazine action, a drug classically used to treat lymphatic filariasis and loiasis. They propose that it induces rapid temporary spastic paralysis of parasites by opening TRP channels, including TRP-2 in muscle of Brugia malayi. Inactivation of TRP channels explain its short-lasting therapeutic activity.
