Polymorphism in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) can have a significant impact on their use for electronic and biomedical applications, yet it remains underexplored in curved PAHs like corannulene. Here, the authors use fast scanning calorimetry and single-crystal synchrotron diffraction to investigate corannulene’s solid-state structure, revealing two distinctly different materials below and above a glass-transition temperature.
