Two-step synthesis of chiral fused tricyclic scaffolds from phenols via desymmetrization on nickel

Tricyclic furanic compounds with multiple chiral centers are found in a variety of natural products. Here, the authors show a highly enantioselective nickel-catalyzed procedure to access tricyclic oxygen-containing scaffolds with five contiguous chiral centers.

A boron-transfer mechanism mediating the thermally induced revival of frustrated carbene–borane pairs from their shelf-stable adducts

Frustrated Lewis pairs can be thermally revived from classical Lewis adducts, but the mechanism by which this occurs is not well understood. Here a combined experimental and theoretical study supports a pathway mediated by boron-jumping and dynamic conformational isomerization.

Machine learning has not been strategically applied to design main-group catalysts. Here, the authors built an in-silico library of triarylboranes, which was used to identify reactive catalysts for functionalizing amino acids and peptides with H₂.

Redox-induced reversible metal assembly through translocation and reversible ligand coupling in tetranuclear metal sandwich frameworks

Despite their potential roles in catalysis and materials science, the redox-induced dynamic structural changes in (sp²-carbon ligand)–(multiple metals)–(sp²-carbon ligand) systems are not well understood. Now, tetra-palladium sandwich complexes have been described that exhibit redox-switchable assembly of the metal centres or coupling of the ligands.
