Non-hysteretic colossal magnetoelectricity in a collinear antiferromagnet

Usually magnetoelectric switching is accompanied by hysteresis, which is a consequence of the large barrier between different magnetoelectric states. Here, the authors show that in the antiferromagnet Ni₃TeO₆magnetoelectric switching of magnetization as well as polarization occur without hysteresis.

Solitonic lattice and Yukawa forces in the rare-earth orthoferrite TbFeO₃

The interaction between spins in magnetic materials gives rise to a number of interesting effects. An example is the discovery of an unusual magnetic state based on a long-range ordering force between magnetic domain walls that is analogous to the interaction between protons and neutrons in atomic nuclei.

Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya-like interaction in ferroelectrics and antiferroelectrics

The Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI) enables coupling of magnetic spins and is responsible for non-collinear phenomena such as skyrmions. Here, using first-principles simulations and group theory analysis, it is demonstrated that an electric DMI exists and is analogous to the magnetic DMI.
