Diazoacetate polymerizations using inexpensive catalysts has been a long-standing challenge to achieve. Here the authors report a Ni(II) catalyst that can promote living polymerization of various diazoacetates, yielding well-defined carbon–carbon main chain polymers, polycarbenes.
