Phase separation of initiation hubs on cargo is a trigger switch for selective autophagy

Licheva, Pflaum, Babic, Mancilla et al. show that low-affinity cargo–receptor interactions promote autophagy receptor mobility and condensation of the scaffold protein Atg11 to trigger initiation hub and phagophore formation.

Bactericidal effect of tetracycline in E. coli strain ED1a may be associated with ribosome dysfunction

The human gut contains diverse bacterial strains that are beneficial/critical for health. Here, the authors compare the response of human gut and laboratory E. coli strains to the antibiotic tetracycline in molecular detail and find a severe dysfunction of protein synthesis only in the gut strain.

M. tuberculosis cytochrome bd oxidase is of interest as a TB drug target. Here, the authors present the 2.5 Å cryo-EM structure of M. tuberculosis cytochrome bd oxidase and identify a disulfide bond within the canonical quinol binding and oxidation domain (Q-loop) and a menaquinone-9 binding site at heme b₅₉₅.
