Uniform shape monodisperse single chain nanocrystals by living aqueous catalytic polymerization

The formation of polymer nanoparticles with a uniform size and shape, beyond spheres, is an unresolved problem. Here the authors show a living aqueous catalytic polymerization forming single crystal particles grown by a single active site and composed of a single ultra high molecular weight polyethylene chain.

Closed-loop recycling of polyethylene-like materials

Polycarbonates and polyesters with materials properties like those of high-density polyethylene can be recycled chemically by depolymerization to their constituent monomers, re-polymerization yielding material with uncompromised processing and materials properties.

Small amounts of in-chain keto groups render polyethylene (PE) photodegradable, a desirable feature in view of environmental plastics pollution. Here the authors introduce low ketone content by copolymerization in organic solvent or under aqueous conditions at moderate pressures.
