  • Self-propelled colloidal particles can be potentially used to transport cargoes at the microscale, but it is challenging to prevent randomization of their motion by Brownian rotations.   • In order to predict the behaviours of self-propelled particles it is important to understand the fluid disturbances they generate. Here the authors measure the flow-fields around active particles and show that they are in agreement with theoretical predictions which take into account electrokinetic effects.
