A nucleotide code governs Lis1’s ability to relieve dynein autoinhibition

A combination of biochemical, cell biological and electron microscopy analyses reveal a ‘nucleotide code’ that coordinates Lis1–dynein binding stoichiometry, which in turn governs Lis1’s ability to relieve dynein autoinhibition.

Microtubule-binding-induced allostery triggers LIS1 dissociation from dynein prior to cargo transport

She1 affects dynein through direct interactions with the microtubule and the dynein microtubule-binding domain

Dynein is a microtubule motor the motility of which is affected by the microtubule-associated protein She1. Here, the authors show that She1 alters dynein stepping behavior and increases its microtubule affinity through simultaneous interactions with the microtubule and dynein microtubule binding domain.
