A survey of the reconstructed gene set of the last eukaryotic common ancestor shows a consistent link between Asgard archaea and the origin of numerous, functionally diverse eukaryotic genes, demonstrating the dominant Asgard contribution to eukaryogenesis.

Algal photosystem I dimer and high-resolution model of PSI-plastocyanin complex

This study presents a chloroplast photosystem I structure identified by cryogenic electron microscopy from the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. In contrast to the cyanobacterial complex, the absence of PsaH and Lhca2 allows a head-to-head orientation of the photosystem I–light-harvesting complex I monomers.

Type III ATP synthase is a symmetry-deviated dimer that induces membrane curvature through tetramerization

Mitochondrial ATP synthases are involved in shaping the mitochondrial cristae. The cryo-EM structure of type III ATP synthase reveals the architecture of the unusual, asymmetrical, U-shaped dimer and offers insights into the interaction with the natural inhibitor IF1 and membrane lipids. The structure of the enzyme tetramer suggests the mechanism of membrane curvature generation.
