Dysregulation of the T cell compartment is a driving factor in the development of Type 1 diabetes (T1D). Here, the authors present a single-cell gene expression analysis of peripheral blood T cells collected from children with T1D at the time of diagnosis and after one year and report an association with impaired T cell effector differentiation and regulatory T cell dysfunction that contribute to the loss of self-tolerance.
