Evidence for singular-phonon-induced nematic superconductivity in a topological superconductor candidate Sr_0.1Bi₂Se₃

Superconductivity mediated by phonons is usually conventional due to isotropic electron-phonon coupling. Here, Wang et al. report highly anisotropic phonons only along [001] direction in Sr_0.1Bi₂Se₃, indicating a singular electron-phonon coupling which favors a p-wave nematic superconductivity scenario.

Tipping points of marine phytoplankton to multiple environmental stressors

The authors establish machine learning models to identify multifactor tipping points of global marine phytoplankton. They show that temperature and carbon dioxide dominate risks, and project crossing tipping points in tropical area production (50%) and resistance (41%) by 2100 under high emissions.

Designing light-element materials with large effective spin-orbit coupling

For materials composed of light elements the spin-orbit interaction is typically weak, due to their low atomic number. In this theoretical work, Li et al show how crystal symmetry and electron correlation can lead to an enhanced spin-orbit interaction and predict materials to realise this effect.
