Now Est1p is shown to convert G-rich telomeric DNA into G-quadruplex structures in vitro, and this activity is essential for telomere length maintenance in vivo.

They identify a new susceptibility locus at 11p11.2 and also identify a locus at 6p21-22.1 in the extended MHC region, which has previously been reported to be associated with schizophrenia in individuals of European descent.
