Dual-plasmonic Au@Cu₇S₄ yolk@shell nanocrystals for photocatalytic hydrogen production across visible to near infrared spectral region

Near infrared energy remains untapped toward the maneuvering of entire solar spectrum harvesting for fulfilling nuts and bolts of solar hydrogen production. Here, the authors report the use of Au@Cu₇S₄ yolk@shell nanocrystals for hydrogen production from untapped near infrared energy.

CO₂ hydrogenation to HCOOH catalyzed by aqueous Pd needle assembly

Selective CO₂-to-liquid conversion remains a major challenge due to inertness of CO₂. This work designs Pd nanoneedles with bent Pd–Pd bonds, enabling >99% selective formic acid production under mild conditions by enhancing CO₂ activation.

Interstitial boron-triggered electron-deficient Os aerogels for enhanced pH-universal hydrogen evolution

While noble metals can be active electrocatalysts for producing renewable H₂, there are relatively few works examining osmium materials. Here, the authors prepare boron-doped osmium aerogels for H₂ evolution electrocatalysis plus examine the mechanism using computational and in situ characterization.

Operando elucidation of hydrogen production mechanisms on sub-nanometric high-entropy metallenes

High-entropy alloys are promising electrocatalysts for multistep and tandem reactions, yet its mechanism remains unclear. Here, the authors address this challenge by using in-situ XAS to reveal the multi-site hydrogen evolution mechanisms on high-entropy metallenes in wide pH electrolytes.

Zhang-Rice singlets state formed by two-step oxidation for triggering water oxidation under operando conditions

The Zhang-Rice singlet is known for the superconductivity of high-temperature superconductors cuprate but is rarely studied for an electrochemical catalyst. Here, the authors use operando spectroscopic tools and observe Cu active site evolves into high-valent CuO₄ geometry with Cu³⁺ active species, so-called Zhang-Rice singlet state, during oxygen evolution reaction.

Au@Nb@H_xK_1-xNbO₃ nanopeapods with near-infrared active plasmonic hot-electron injection for water splitting

Although near-infrared light makes up a large portion of the solar spectrum, harvesting it for photocatalytic applications remains challenging. Here the authors deposit unidirectional Au@Nb core-shell nanoparticles into tubular H_xK_1–xNbO₃ nanoscrolls and report cooperative full solar spectrum absorption.
