Achieving dynamic multimodal luminescence in a single material is promising but challenging. Here, the authors engineer a phosphor with dynamic multicolor luminescence and photo-thermomechanically responsive emissions by adding Mn²⁺ to a self-activated CaGa₄O₇ host.

A 100-pixel photon-number-resolving detector unveiling photon statistics

Up to 100 photons are resolved by a waveguide-integrated and hybrid spatiotemporal-multiplexed superconducting nanowire single-photon detector array. Using this detector array, photon statistical behaviour for a true thermal and a coherent light source is verified.

Photonic link from single-flux-quantum circuits to room temperature

Superconducting electro-optic modulators for a cryogenic-to-room-temperature link are demonstrated. The record-low half-wave voltage of 42 mV is achieved on a 1-m-long modulator. By matching the velocity of microwave and optical signals, a 0.2-m-long modulator can achieve a 3 dB bandwidth of over 17 GHz.

CD36-mediated metabolic crosstalk between tumor cells and macrophages affects liver metastasis

Macrophage-mediated immune suppression contributes to poor outcome in liver metastasis. Here the authors show that CD36-expressing metastasis associated macrophages engulf tumor cell-derived extracellular vesicles enriched in long-chain fatty acids, acquiring a pro-tumorigenic phenotype in a preclinical liver metastasis model.

miR-3188 regulates nasopharyngeal carcinoma proliferation and chemosensitivity through a FOXO1-modulated positive feedback loop with mTOR–p-PI3K/AKT-c-JUN

Although miR-related mechanisms have been implicated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a precise role for miR-3188 has not been reported in this context. Here, Zhao et al. show that FOXO1-induced miR-3188 acts as a tumour suppressor in NPC by regulating the axis mTOR/PI3K/Akt/c-Jun.
