DHRS13 suppresses differentiation and mitophagy in glioma via retinoic acid and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species

Cancer stem-like cells contribute to tumor growth and therapy resistance in glioblastoma. Here, authors identify that DHRS13 inhibition promotes differentiation of glioma stem-like cells by activating retinoic acid signaling and induces cell death through mitochondrial reactive oxygen species-driven mitophagy.

Mitochondrial aconitase suppresses immunity by modulating oxaloacetate and the mitochondrial unfolded protein response

Mitochondrial function has been linked to immunity but the role of the Krebs’s cycle in regards the immune response is not well characterised. Here the authors show that Krebs’s cycle enzyme ACO2 suppresses immunity via modulation of oxaloacetate and the mitochondrial unfolded protein response.

While AMPKα is known for its role in regulating GLUT4 trafficking and subsequent glucose uptake into cells, its upstream regulators are not well understood. The authors provide evidence that PAK4 acts as an inhibitory kinase for AMPKα, thus impairing glucose uptake in skeletal muscle.
