Molecular ferroelectric with low-magnetic-field magnetoelectricity at room temperature

The authors report a molecular ferroelectric (TMCM)[FeCl₄], which shows strong magnetostrictive and magnetoelectric effects at room temperature. The spin-lattice coupling of FeCl₄ and flexible structure of organic cations are responsible for these effects.

Structural basis for precursor protein–directed ribosomal peptide macrocyclization

Biosynthesis of the protease inhibitor microviridin J includes peptide macrocyclization catalyzed by two enzymes of the ATP-grasp family. Structures of these macrocyclases, MdnB and MdnC, reveal how they recognize their precursor-peptide substrates.

A distributive peptide cyclase processes multiple microviridin core peptides within a single polypeptide substrate

Microviridins belong to the family of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs). Here, the authors discover a microviridin-synthesizing enzyme in a cyanobacterium that modifies multiple core peptides from a single substrate in a distributive and unstrictly directional manner, an unusual biosynthetic logic for RiPPs.
