Self-pressurizing nanoscale capsule catalysts for CO₂ electroreduction to acetate or propanol

CO₂ electroreduction to multicarbon products is desirable but challenging. Now, self-pressurizing nanoscale capsule catalysts are synthesized. The self-pressurising capsules harness high-pressure CO environments for selective acetate or propanol production via a CO–CO₂ coupling pathway.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) are promising candidates to catalyze CO₂ reduction for the formation of high value hydrocarbons but most of the reactions yield CO. Here, the authors show a low-temperature calcining process to fabricate a carbon-dots-based SAC to efficiently convert CO₂ to methane.

Highly quaternized polystyrene ionomers for high performance anion exchange membrane water electrolysers

Anion exchange membrane water electrolysers have potential cost advantages over proton exchange membrane electrolysers, but their performance has lagged behind. Here the authors investigate the cause of the poor performance of anion exchange membrane electrolysers and design ionomers that can overcome some of the challenges.

Designable and dynamic single-walled stiff nanotubes assembled from sequence-defined peptoids

The application potential of organic nanotubes is currently limited by their lack of designable or dynamic properties. Here, Chen et al. use sequence-defined peptoids to assemble a new family of pH-responsive stiff nanotubes whose dimensions, components and functions can be easily tailored.

In situ simultaneous monitoring of ATP and GTP using a graphene oxide nanosheet–based sensing platform in living cells

This approach uses fluorescently labeled aptamers and graphene oxide nanosheets to adsorb the aptamers and quench fluorescence. Ligand (e.g., ATP or GTP) binding results in the release of aptamers into solution and fluorescence is "turned on".
