  • A superconducting diode effect was recently reported in Nb/V/Ta superlattices, but the mechanism is not yet clear. Here, the authors study non-reciprocal critical current in Al/InAs nanowires and propose a generic extrinsic mechanism involving field-generated diamagnetic currents, which may explain the earlier Nb/V/Ta results.

  • Previous work has shown that helical domain walls can form between states of different spin-polarization during a ferromagnetic spin transition in the fractional quantum Hall regime. Here, the authors study the transport through a single helical domain wall and find strong deviations from a simplified theory of weakly interacting edge channels.

  • The magnetization of a magnetic random-access memory is usually controlled by the injection of an externally polarized spin-current. A proof-of-principle demonstration shows that this could instead be manipulated with local fields generated by spin–orbit interactions of an unpolarized current.
