Li et al. investigate the mechanism behind vascular inflammation and calcification in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and show that inflammation is due to activation of the confirmed TGFBR1/TAK1 pathway, with miR-135a-5p as a key regulator. They further show that farnesoid X receptor activation upregulates miR-135a-5p which attenuates vascular inflammation and calcification in CKD rats.
