Assembling covalent organic framework membranes via phase switching for ultrafast molecular transport

Covalent organic framework (COF) membranes are important in low energy and cost-effective molecular separations but most COF membranes are assembled via a one-step procedure by concurrent polymerization and crystallization which compromises the ordered structure. Here, the authors propose a two-step phase switching strategy for assembling compact and highly crystalline COF membranes decoupling the polymerization and the crystallization process.

Covalent organic frameworks (COF) are an important desalination membrane material but rational design of the hierarchical structures of nanochannels remains challenging. A signature motif in LIM proteins mediates binding to checkpoint proteins and increases tumour radiosensitivity

CDC25 phosphatases are important cell cycle regulators. Here, the authors show that the LIM domain-containing proteins (for example, FHL1) induce inhibitory CDC25 phosphorylation resulting in radioresistance and that a specific peptide can increase tumour radiosensitivity by increasing CDC25 activity.

Short hydrogen-bond network confined on COF surfaces enables ultrahigh proton conductivity

When hydronium ions are enriched in confined water, short hydrogen bonds (SHBs) form due to the constrained space of excess protons between pairs of water molecules. Here authors demonstrate a SHB network confined on the surface of ionic COF membranes with tunable -SO₃H groups, with proton conductivity of 1389 mS cm^-1 at 90 ^oC.
