Flat bands are electronic bands with divergent density of states where the resultant confinement leads to strong electron-electron correlations and emergent phenomena are typically studied in platforms such as quantum materials. Here, the authors theoretically investigate a distinctive system where electrons are confined to flat bands on the surface of a conducting sphere, using the magnetic field case as a reference to explore the physics in the absence of a magnetic field.
