Polygenic and developmental profiles of autism differ by age at diagnosis

A study of several longitudinal birth cohorts and cross-sectional cohorts finds only moderate overlap in genetic variants between autism that is diagnosed earlier and that diagnosed later, so they may represent aetiologically different conditions.

Oncogenic EML4-ALK assemblies suppress growth factor perception and modulate drug tolerance

The EML4-ALK oncogene forms cytoplasmic protein condensates that are associated with its oncogenic signaling. Here, the authors demonstrate that these EML4-ALK assemblies also sequester receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) adapter proteins suppressing signaling which was reversed upon ALK inhibition, resulting in rapid resensitisation to growth factors and tumor cell survival.

Microstimulation of human somatosensory cortex evokes task-dependent, spatially patterned responses in motor cortex

Here the authors record the responses evoked in the hand and arm representations of M1 during intracortical microstimulation in the hand representation of S1, and show somatotopically organized connections with motor cortex. The resulting interference with motor decoding is task dependent but can be alleviated by using biomimetic stimulation.

Combined thermodynamic and time-resolved structural analysis of interactions between AP2 and biomimetic plasma membranes provides insights into clathrin-mediated endocytosis

Using neutron reflectometry, AFM, and tensiometry, we analyzed AP2 binding to model membranes enriched in PtdIns(4,5)P2, unraveling Clathrin mediated endocytosis mechanisms. Cargo extends AP2 membrane residence, and AP2 interaction decreases phospholipid diffusion, potentially influencing clathrin binding.
