The unstable electrolyte–electrode interface and trace water in commercial organic electrolytes limit the cycling life of sodium-ion batteries. Here, the authors prepare a locking-chain electrolyte additive to suppress electrolyte degradation by water while promoting an insoluble interphase in hard carbon electrode.
