High drain field impact ionization transistors as ideal switches

Yuan et al. report a nearly vertical subthreshold swing field-effect transistor consists of a graphene/silicon heterojunction drain and a silicon channel. The device enables nearly hysteresis-free transistors with subthreshold swing of 16 µV dec⁻¹, and a complementary logic inverter with gain of 311.

The development of dendrite-free, Zn-free anodes is challenging. Here, the authors design a two-dimensional antimony/antimony-zinc alloy heterostructured interface to achieve dendrite-free Zn deposition with areal capacity of 200 mAh cm⁻², and energy density of around 270 Wh kg⁻¹ for anode-free zinc-bromine battery.

In vivo transcriptional governance of hair follicle stem cells by canonical Wnt regulators

Hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) regenerate hair in response to Wnt signalling. Fuchs and colleagues use a genome-wide survey to discover that Wnt effectors TCF3, TCF4 and Groucho (TLE) coordinately repress Wnt target genes. They find that although β-catenin is dispensable for HSFC viability and proliferation, it is essential to relieve this repression to initiate hair follicle fate during the hair regeneration cycle.
