Temporal evolution of H2 and O2 evolution in mols per total mass of photocatalyst on irradiation of Ar-purged MilliQ water in contact with /ml-G (Au content 1 μg × cm−2, total photocatalyst content 4.25 μg cm−2). The plot shows the H2 and O2 production with the estimated s.d. (calculated as the square root of the sum of (a-ā)2, being a the value of the data set and ā the mean of the data set, divide by the number of data points). Photocatalytic H2 and O2 production rate of various materials for overall water splitting under the same conditions: ml-G (G content 3.25 μg cm−2), Au/ml-G (unoriented, Au content 30.6 μg, total photocatalyst content 30.6 mg) and /ml-G (Au content 1 μg × cm−2, total photocatalyst content 4.25 μg cm−2).
