The average ratio of the number of BIMs from each treatment over the number of BIMs in the control within that biological replicate. The BIM counts are the average number of colonies obtained from three technical replicates for each of three independent biological replicates on exposure to phages at a base MOI of 0.1 of 2972M+, plus an equal volume of either ultraviolet-treated phages (see Table 1) or, as a control, an additional MOI of 0.1 of 2972M+ (B × 2). Error bars represent the s.d. of the average ratios. All samples marked a are significantly different (P<0.05) from those marked b, as determined by one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s honest significant difference30.
