The authors set out to determine how the timing of replication initiation is set by comparing two individual replication origins that replicate at different stages of S phase; ars2004 (an early origin, where initiation factors assemble at the onset of S phase) and AT2088 (a late origin). First, they analysed replication kinetics and confirmed that ars2004 replicated approximately 10 minutes earlier than AT2088.

Taz1 is recruited to telomeric sequences near a subset of late origins, and this determines replication timing in fission yeast
