Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is the most common condition-related cause of death in chronic epilepsy, and includes all epilepsy-related deaths not due to trauma, drowning, status epilepticus or other identifiable cause. By pooling data from four studies of risk factors for SUDEP, Dale Hesdorffer and her colleagues have now confirmed previously identified risk factors, and found new ones.
