Root canal treatment- love it or hate it, it will always be one of the cornerstones of NHS general dentistry. With an ever-ageing population, tooth related age changes can often present considerable challenges to the practitioner. NHS statistics show 9.8 million courses of treatment including endodontics delivered in just quarter 2 of 2019/20, showing a significant rise of 79,984 compared to 2018/2019 figures.1 Endodontic specialists provide a valuable service however this will incur financial implications for the patient and justification of any referral must be robust. Overall, we are faced with endodontic treatment more than ever before so here is a summary of key principles and facts, the ABC of endodontics.
