Factors influencing glaucoma fellowship choice in the UK

Glaucoma is a sub-specialty within Ophthalmology that has seen numerous innovative advances recently [1]. The development of various minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) and alternatives to traditional filtering surgeries has sparked a resurgence in interest in glaucoma as a sub-specialty [1].

Training in glaucoma usually requires fellowships, which are completed after certificate of completion of training (CCT) and act as a bridge to consultancy. In the UK, trainees are encouraged to gain sub-specialty training in the latter part of training in their area of choice [2], which is known as a training specific component (TSC).
