Non-collinear spin state in the Fe4 chain with dNN = 4a. a Calculated spin-expectation values \(( {\langle {\hat S_{||}} \rangle ,\langle {\hat S_ \bot } \rangle ,\langle {\hat S_z} \rangle } )\), see arrows (\(\langle {\hat S_ \bot } \rangle = 0\) by symmetry), for each atom in the Fe4 chain at Bz = 3 T. The results are obtained by exact diagonalization (ED) of a spin model with parameters given in Table 1, JNN = −25 μeV, and D⊥,NN = +30 μeV. b, c ISTS spectra (b) and corresponding colorplots (c) measured on all four atoms in the Fe4 chain for different magnetic fields Bz up to Bz = 11 T.
