Scaling approaches to account for multiphase crystal-bearing magma. Here the timescales plotted on each axis are unscaled, while the critical Wi curves are scaled for the effect of crystals in order to demonstrate how the viscous-to-brittle transition shifts with increasing crystal content (a–d). When the axes are scaled instead, the data should be comparable regardless of crystal effects (see Fig. 4)
