From: RETRACTED ARTICLE: Atomic insight into hydration shells around facetted nanoparticles

Allocation of interatomic distances in adsorbed water layer. Facetted iron oxide nanoparticle surface with dissociatively and molecularly adsorbed water molecules and experimental signal from hydration shell. Oxygen atoms are red, hydrogen white, Feoct dark blue and Fetet light blue. Bonds resulting in the peaks at 1.48, 1.95 and 2.39 Å are highlighted with solid lines in green, purple and yellow, respectively. The peak at 1.48 Å belonging to hydrogen bonds can be allocated multiple times within the first adsorbed layer as indicated in the scheme. The scheme is a projection of a 3D adsorption structure onto 2D for illustration of relevant distances and thus distances and atom positions are distorted
