Scanning electron micrographs of NOMEX® fabric. The fabric was co-incubated for 6 weeks with bacteria isolated from the ISS: a–d Co-incubation with Bacillus paralicheniformis; e–h Co-incubation with Cupriavidus metallidurans; i–l Negative control of NOMEX® fabric kept in sterile medium for 6 weeks. Precipitates found in the negative control were found to be remnants of the medium/particles and did not contain microbial cells
