From: Low expression of RNA sensors impacts Zika virus infection in the lower female reproductive tract

Low expression of RNA sensors in vaginal mucosa of mice and macaques. Tissues were collected from C57BL/6N female mice one week after DMPA treatment (upper panels), or from uninfected female macaques without any DMPA treatment (lower panels). Using qRT-PCR, levels of mRNA of indicated genes in all tissues were detected, normalized to GAPDH and expressed as fold-change over iLN samples. a Expression of RNA sensors. b Expression of TLR3 co-receptor. Mouse LFRT and UFRT n = 12, mouse iLN n = 13, macaque vag1, vag3, uterus and iLN n = 6, macaque cervix and ovary n = 5. Data represent mean ± SEM; *p < 0.05; **p < 0.01; ***p < 0.001; ****p < 0.0001; one-way ANOVA with Tukey’s multiple comparison test. Each dot represents value from one animal. Vag, vagina (Vag 1 and Vag 3 represent two different regions of the vaginal tissue from the same animal); iLN, iliac lymph node; LFRT, lower female reproductive tract; UFRT, upper female reproductive tract.
