From: Origin of Ising magnetism in Ca3Co2O6 unveiled by orbital imaging

The Co\({}_{\text{trig}}\) site electron density cut in the XY-plane. The experimental/theoretical electron density (red/gray) was obtained by subtracting the experimentally/theoretically determined hole density (green/black) from a reference \({d}^{5}\) circular (spherical in 3D) hole density (pink), which is of the same radius as in Fig. 5. The insets show the calculated 3D shapes of the electorn and hole densities, along with the transparent gray planes that correspond to the experimental [100] to [011] cut. Again, we see that the circular shape of the \({d}_{2}\) orbital in this plane agrees well with our experimental data points.
