Domain writing. Sample polarized to single domain (a). In panels b–e the area depicted by a dashed line was written using a laser power of 50 mW and the corresponding polarity of 0.5 T magnetic field prior to the STGM scan (+0.5 T yields blue contrast and −0.5 T yields red contrast). Writing was followed by reading with laser power of 10 mW. The whole sequence was performed at room temperature.
